I would rather be a Greaser because the book says that the Socs hated the Greasers, but the Greasers had done nothing to deserve being hated by the Socs.Plus, I would rather be poor and not wrong than rich and in the wrong. I think the Greasers are 'tuff" because they put up with the high class Socs and being hated for no reason.

DeleteI think that being a greaser would fun for the same reasons, but I also think I would rather not have to worry about who is around me and if I was about to be jumped. So that is why I would rather be a Soc than a greaser.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you that the Socs do not get jumped by the Greasers as often, but I strongly disagree with the fact that it would be better to be a Soc. You mentioned that everyone in your gang would think you were cool if you were a Soc. I think you would be thought of as cooler by your gang if you were a Greaser because the Greasers seem to have been through a lot more together and have learned to trust one another. The Greasers seem to be more of a family than the Socs.

DeleteI would rather be a Greaser because the Greasers seem tougher and have to put up with more than Socs probably do. In the book, it says that the Socs jump the Greasers and do the wrong things just to be doing something to their amusement. I would only hurt someone if I was defending myself, not if I was just trying to have fun. That is why I could never be a Soc.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Sydney. I can't imagine ever jumping someone or hurting them just for fun. I would never want to be a Soc either. I also agree with you that the Greasers probably have to put up with more than the Socs. It makes life more interesting.
DeleteI agree with Sydney, in most cases, it is the Socs who are causing the most trouble. The only reason that the Greasers have a poor reputation is because they end up hurting the Socs when they Socs attack them and the other people just don't understand and blame the Greasers. Also, as Sydney said, the greasers usually are just better people. They arent the ones who go around attacking people of lower class for fun.

Don't you care about having real friends or having something to live for in life? Once you do whatever you want, what happens whenn you run out of things you want to do.

DeleteI would rather be a greaser even though you are jumped more often because the greasers have actual emotions instead of being empty shells of mean, abusive characteristics. They have the ability to think freely. They also have gangs which are like you second family who really do care and will help you though anything. Plus, they actually have to try in life which I would prefer instead of getting everything given to you and having nothing to live for besides beating up innocent( sort of) people who don’t have as much as me and are less privileged as myself.

DeleteI would rather be a Greaser because they experience more emotion and have real struggles and pain. I believe that having struggles and pain such as being less fortunate, looked down upon, and having to actually work for what you want can only make you stronger. Living like a Greaser would make life interesting. I would not like to get everything I want whenever I want or be considered perfect. Life needs its ups and downs. Greasers are "tuff" which is a characteristic I would like to have. I would enjoy having a gang or group of friends that I could count on all of the time.

And of coarse looks that are tough and nice hair. Even if you are hated for no reason or jumped. Some of you may not know my other side; rough, tough, and dangerous but I have one, it's perfect for Greasers. And when you are a Socs you don't have have feeling yet a cool car but life as a Greaser would be more fun. Greasers may not have the best life level, but they have a better L-I-F-E. You dig? But, don't get me wrong I'd never, ever smoke(chewing on cancer is what it is).

DeleteI would what to be a greaser because, the people who are in the group is like your family. Greaser do not have expensive things, but the have each other. They have your back, no mader what you do, the always have your back. If you are in a bad time they will help you get through it. The socs do not have feelings like the greasers do in life, they can cry if one of their friends get hurt. If you are in trouble your friends will get your back if you are jumped, or you need a ride to your house.
ReplyDeleteI would want to be a Socs, because I think that this book does not describe the Socs that well. Most people went with Greaser because this book is from a Greasers' point of view. I know what a Greaser is because my Grandfather was one he had a jean jacket and always had a pack of cigarets in his left shirt sleeve. I want to be a Socs because they had a better living style and seemed to have more money and come from the "right side of the tracks.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, being a Greaser would be better. Greasers are mostly good and innocent until Socs get them into trouble by randomly attacking them for their amusement. Although Greasers had a poor lifestyle, it appears that Ponyboy and his brothers could make it by fairly well even with no parents. Being a Greaser would also increase your level of respect for your brothers,friends, and all your possessions, because you don't have as much. Being a Soc at this time didn't make you respect what you had, so you just want more stuff, as Cherry Valance had even said. Also, I would like to be a Soc due to the fact that they had a better set of values, meaning that they have different priotities that I believe I would be able to follow better.

My great uncle was a Soc, and his husband was a greaser. They've been together since their high school days, which is pretty impressive if you ask me. And if you ask them if it was hard coming out, they would tell you that both Socs and greasers turned on them. Just because they loved a man.
So to be honest, I wouldn't be any of those. I would just be myself and stick with those who I love, no matter if their 'socs' or 'greasers'.

ReplyDeleteI'd prefer to be a greaser. As interesting it would be to not feel emotions as much it's pretty much one of the only few bonuses to being a soc. I do actually try to act tough in the real world so I'd be almost the same. I do enjoy fighting but at the same time not really. If I get into that situation then I'll be ready to fight anyone I can. Being a greaser would be pretty cool
